• Verification of statements of truthfulness. This method can identify which person was truthful when providing statements or declarations, and which one was not.

Accuracy of Polygraph Examinations

Over the past 75 years, 250 studies have been conducted on the accuracy of polygraph testing. Since many different conditions and factors are involved in research, and since a polygraph examination is a complex process, it is difficult to draw a precise figure from the data on the accuracy of polygraph testing in all settings.
Nevertheless, when a professionally trained examiner utilizes an established testing procedure, the accuracy of the decision made by polygraph examiners is generally around 95% for specific issue investigations, while some independent studies put it as high as 97% accuracy.

Legal Aspects Regarding the Polygraph

To undergo a polygraph examination, an examinee must agree thereto. This is done in writing before the examiner starts the examination. It is advisable to use a Polygraph result as supporting evidence rather than on its own.
There are numerous workplace related cases where Polygraph test results have been used as supporting evidence in disciplinary hearings, arbitration meetings as well as CCMA and labour courts.

Rates

Polygraph Examinations range in price from R650-00 to R 1000-00 per examination, determined by the type and amount required. Another factor that may determine the pricing is the distance to travel.
